Week 22 - Wednesday 28th June

LATE STARTER

Once again Motorway Madness delayed our kick off by 20minutes at least the rain held off. Quite a few of the squad missing, which meant  a debut for Liam and the return from Glastonbury for Beatts.

TEAMS:
BIBS – AILES , CHRISTIAN, SIMON, GARNO & LIAM
SHIRTS – BEATTS, GAZZA, CHRIS B, JAKE & D’LOW

Impressive finishing from Gazza made sure of a win for the Shirts this week. Our popular marauding veteran  smashing goals in from every angle. Beats and Jake also helped themselves after a bout of horrible defending from the Bibs. D’ low once again impressed with lung busting runs and some super cool finishes. Chris Bowden was their Rock at the back, blocking, tackling and clearing up.

For the Bibs Christian as per last week got the majority of his teams goals, closely followed by Ailes. Liam had a good debut  and was also on the score sheet. Simon struggling with his broken toe managed a few fearsome strikes but obviously in some pain. Garno broke his duck from previous matches sneaking one in past Beatts.

FINAL SCORE – SHIRTS 18 –BIBS  13.

COMEDY MOMENTS – Nothing funny about a late Kick off … come on boys !!!???

MAN OF THE MATCH - No question about it Gazza was close to a double figure goal tally this evening well done mate.

Week 21 - Wednesday 21st June

ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS

Even teams again this week, although a build-up of traffic on the motorway delayed some players we eventually got 12 bodies on the field and the game began. Regulars missing this week Ashey, Beatts and Chris.

TEAMS:
BIBS – D’LOW, JONNIE, CHRISTIAN, GARNO, STEF & AILES
SHIRTS – SIMON, JAMES , ANDY, GAZ, RYAN & JAKE

A brief sprinkling of rain in the first 5 minutes made for a faster unforgiving surface and the ball zipped and zapped all over the place. This didn’t stop Ryan from firing in some crackers from distance, with Christian doing the same for the Bibs. Jake and James jinked and jostled with the opposition as the Shirts took the lead. Bibs drew level in this match on four occasions but just couldn’t find the killer blow. Jonnie was on form with super passes and classic shooting. D’ Low and Stef also worked hard to get on the score sheet. Both also having great spells as goalkeepers. Gazza whipped in one of the goals of the night and Simon notched a hat trick of goal hangers. Andy was called upon to make many a save and he was probably the difference to night.

Ailes also showed his class and enjoyed a couple of special individual goals. Garno slowly eased himself back into the game after returning from injury . Christian had the last word with yet another top corner finish, by then though the Shirts where uncatchable James and Ryan having confirmed their win.   FINAL SCORE – SHIRTS 16 –BIBS  14.

COMEDY MOMENTS – The greasy  ball made fools of us all tonight. … More Comedy  for Gaz and Garno who met up with Chris and Alex Langton in the Rams Head Pub – Disley, after the match. To celebrate the Old Walton Wednesday Goalkeepers 53rd Birthday.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Sporting his new blonde wig……which incredibly improved his shooting as well as  dazzling the female spectators. Christian takes this week’s invisible award.

Week 20 - Wednesday 14th June

UP, UP AND AWAY... TWICE

A fairly warm evening for a game of feverish six-a-side tonight which, unfortunately, became a five on six when Garno had to pull out due to a Sunday knee injury getting the better of him. Hard luck mate, maybe next week. Still we had a decent amount of players even though we were waiting on Stef until close on 10 past seven.

TEAMS:
BIBS –  Ailes, Chris B, D Low, Stef and Ryan
SHIRTS – Gaz, Beatts, Ashey, Simon, James and Jake.

As usual after Beatts decided I was the referee, things got going. The five players of the Bibs had the early going with the (mainly) younger side and faster legs with Ailes twisting and turning his way through multiple bodies to score a great goal. Beatts retaliated with an ace goal of his own and also Simon getting in on the act after a pass down the sideline, he twisted, feigned a shot the drilled home a low one.

As the match went on however, in the evening heat, the Bibs started to suffer and the Shirts started getting more goals. Gaz had a nailed on chance of a goal in front of the onion bag only to sky it in spectacular fashion that a rugby player would have been proud of. Up, up and away number 1.

Then there was a swap around of personnel which unfortunately invalidated the final score. Gaz joined the bibs, Ryan did some swapping to the Shirts then back again because he preferred the five team. Basically it got totally uneven and broke our normal rule of sticking with the starting teams. See what happens when Garno’s away?

The final result was we had to have yet another draw because the teams changed. Luckily for the Bibs, but then again they were the team with one less man on a warm, humid evening. Looks like one point each lads.

COMEDY MOMENTS – Towards the end D Low decided to do a ‘Ave it’ moment and hoofed the ball in the direction of the motorway. Up, up and away number two. He duly disappeared to find it whilst we played the remaining 5 minutes. Amazingly he retrieved it but we’d gone off the court leaving all his gear behind the goal. Soz.

MAN OF THE MATCH - May have to be Beatts for his all round effort and an amazing keepy uppy skill outside the area to then swivel, turn and shoot a great goal. Well done lad.

Week 19 - Wednesday 7th June

FOOTBALL FIRST

Not the greatest turn out this week ,only Eight lads available. Difficult to pick even sides, but we had a good go at it and to be fair the run around was most enjoyable.

TEAMS:
BIBS –  GARNO, GAZZA, AILES & STEF.
SHIRTS – JAMES, JAKE, SIMON & ASH.

The shirts having the pace of James and passing power of Jake romped into an unassailable lead. Ashey enjoying all that extra room scored a bag full. Simon also popped home a good total of goals. The shirts hung in there, with heads held high and rallied towards the end, all their team whacking in some goals of quality.

To be honest it was a refreshing although exhausting training session, with the result not important. All the lads came off at the end with smiles on their faces which is the most important thing. For the record the Shirts scored more than twice as many goals as the Bibs, however I propose 3 points to everybody who turned out this week…………. Once again Football was the winner and its nights like this that keep our little Club going.

COMEDY MOMENTS – Lots and lots of one on one and open nets missed all over the place.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Could be anyone, but Ashey gets it this week for some sublime finishing … Top Man.
