DARK AND DRIZZLY
On Tuesday Night we had the dilemma of a full turn out, that meant 16 bodies available to play. Ted and Stef pulled out late on so we ended up with a still crowded game of 7 a side. The slightly bigger out door pitch made for an interesting contest.
BIBS - BEATTS, SIMON, JONNIE, JAMES, GAZZA, D’LOW & ASHEY.
SHIRTS - ANDY, CHRIS B, GARNO, CHRISTIAN, RYAN, JAKE & AILES.
Beatts picked the teams and on paper they looked quite even. The rainy conditions made for an exciting and sometimes frantic game. D’low squeeze in a cracker to open the scoring with Ryan equalising minutes later with a low drive.
The game ebbed and flowed chances went begging at both ends and both teams keepers were in constant action. Ailes could have had ten goals if his shooting was truer as he linked up with Ryan and Jake. Christian hassled and ran for everything. Garno and Chris B were solid at the back and Andy pulled off many great saves. Some good goals tonight, Jonnie threaded a great ball through to Ashey who’s first time shot found the corner of the net. James powered in a toe poke after a flowing move. Beatts managed to get on the score sheet, but for all his creative flair Simon was frustrated by the wood work tonight.
Ryan completed a hat trick and together with comrades Jake and Ailes saw the game out. Gazza once again was formidable in nets for the Bibs and a 100% work horse out field. When the final whistle blew the Shirts were in control.
FINAL SCORE - SHIRTS 9 - BIBS 6.
From where I was standing it has to go to Chris B, who defended like a pro and tackled like a good un.
After the luxury of almost a full squad turn out last week, we were back to the all too familiar bare bones. Lady in waiting Marshy was drafted in for his first game of this season. As 4 players were already in Red, it was his suggestion that those would be the teams. Red v Green. I was not too sure ????
REDS - MARSHY, SIMON, CHRISTIAN, CHRIS B & ASHEY.
GREENS - STEF, JAMES, GARNO, GAZZA & D’LOW.
The Greens went at it guns blazing, firing a dozen shots at the Reds goal. All wide or hitting the post…. Simon got the first goal, curling a shot past an un sited Garno. Marshy was blasting his usual thunderbolts and Christian was picking up every rebound. The Greens then started to find the net, Stef with the equaliser, James and D’Low adding more. Old Boys Garno and Gazza even got amongst the Goals. The Reds were under pressure but not out of it. Chris B, went close, Simon added to his tally, Marshy got a cracker and Ashey banged in goal of the night after a flowing Reds move.
The Greens seemed to just have more energy to see the game out. Soaking up pressure then breaking out of defence quickly. Stretching their lead to Five. With seconds to go, Christian sneaked in the Reds eighth goal, then Stef shot high and wide at the other end sending the ball skywards and lodging it in the over pitch netting. That was that.
FINAL SCORE - GREENS 12, REDS 8
James flattening Christian……( Accidently ??). And finally retrieving our ball from the netting. Thanks to the next team of vets coming on at 8. 00pm.
Man of the Match
Stef ……. . gets the Champagne this week.
Nice to have all that room to play in this week, but we still need 6 on 6 to make it pay, so we hope to see more Vets next week.
The only players that didn’t answer the roll call this week were Ryan and Ted. This gave us the rare luxury of 14 able bodies turning out for a game of football. We were not sure how this would pan out but it all worked well, mistakes pounced upon with no margin for error.
BIBS - JONNIE, ANDY, CHRIS B, GARNO, AILES, SIMON & STEF.
SHIRTS - GAZZA, JAKE, D’LOW, CHRISTIAN, ASHEY, JAMES & BEATTS.
James got to grips with things early and broke the dead lock as players clattered into each other. Banging in the first two goals for his team. Jonnie and Stef then levelled the score. The game was frantic and a right ding dong ensued. Eventually the Bibs pulled away into a 5-3 lead. Garno picking up a lose one and planting the ball past Gaz in the Shirts goal after Simon and Ailes had increased the score. With Chris B, solid in the tackle the Bibs looked comfortable.
Then the comeback began for the Shirts, Ashey set up Jake to sneak one into the corner, Christian whacked in another, then D’low arrived from nowhere to smash home a net buster. The Bibs were having a defensive nightmare and could barely get out of their own half. Gazza chased everything and was rewarded with a goal, needless to say Beatts got in on the act with a cool finish. Poor old Andy in the Bibs goal was pulling off save after save but couldn’t stop the rot. James completed his hat trick and with just seconds to go Jake fired home from long range.
All in all a good work out and a cracking game of footy.
FINAL SCORE - BIBS 5 - SHIRTS 10.
The terrible defending from the Bibs in the last 10 minutes …. . Hilarious and Agonising
Man of the Match
James Garner was on form tonight - well-done.
