Week 14 - Wednesday 26th April

BARE BONES

After last week’s almost full squad turn out, we were down to just Eight regular vets. Luckily James Stamback rallied to the cause along with brother Matt to make up the numbers.

TEAMS:
SHIRTS - SIMON, BEATTS, JAMES, STEF & ASHEY.
BIBS - CHRIS B, ANDY, JAMES S, MATT S & GARNO.

Really good game this with only two goals in it at the end. Andy Creech kept the Bibs in the match early on with some quality saves as his team of strangers got used to each other. Nothing he could do about Paul Ashworth’s early leveller from distance which crashed into the net on the volley.

Lots of lung busting runs from both teams, Matt Stamback scored a few on his debut as did brother James. Simon law was once again on target for the Shirts, with Beatts and James Garner stabbing home rebounds in quick succession. Stef had a good session twisting and turning showing excellent ball control. He also fired home a couple of crackers.

The Bibs however kept their slender lead for the whole hour. Chris Bowden running from deep slotted in a fine goal, and even Garno managed a neat finish on the turn. Another Ashworth classic took the game to within one for a draw, but a late push by the brothers confirmed the Bibs win.

FINAL SCORE - BIBS 11, SHIRTS 9.

Comedy Moments - Refereeing decisions by Garno. Head height or Board height ?not consistent. In fairness he just wants to turn up and play some nights.

Man Of the Match - Ashey defied the years this evening, back to his striking form of the late 1980's.

Week 13 - Wednesday 19th April

RUGBY SEVENS

After the Easter break we had an all most complete squad of players turn out. Only Ted and D’Low still munching through their chocolate eggs.

TEAMS:
BIBS - SIMON, JAMES, ANDY, RYAN, AILES, STEF & GARNO.
SHIRTS - ASHEY, BEATTS, JONNIE, JAKE, GAZZA, CHRISTIAN & CHRIS B.

Always a good old ding dong when we get Seven a side and this evenings match was no different. Plenty of cracking goals, especially from Gazza, Jake and Jonnie. Some unsavoury hand bags from Andy and Christian, solid defending from Garno and Chris B. Miss placed passes from Ailes and Stef, jinking runs from Ryan. Shots off target from Beatts and Simon. Powerful running from James. All the ingredients for a close game, which the Shirts ground out, leaving the Bibs ruing their bag full of missed chances.

FINAL SCORE - SHIRTS 13, BIBS 10.

Comedy Moments - Christian slamming Andy against the boards while collecting the ball inside his area. Then Andy returning the favour on Christian during his brief outfield spell.

Man Of the Match - Jake gets the award this week, for his curling long ranger into the top corner …. Cruelly ruled as high by the baying Mob. Too good a goal to not let it stand, having seen the video evidence the panel have re- instated the wonder strike.

Week 12 - Wednesday 6th April

FIRST DRAW OF THE SEASON

We were all set for a six a side slog out, then Tom retired just after kick off having a boot issue. Stef then arrived late so the teams were re jigged again. Eventually we sorted it out and the match got underway.

TEAMS:
BIBS - BEATTS, JAMES, GARNO, JONNIE, CHRISTIAN & SIMON.
SHIRTS - RYAN, JAKE, AILES, GAZ & STEF.

Not ideal when the teams are un even but our three musketeers Ryan, Ailes and Jake gave a fantastic performance with Gazza and Stef in outstanding supporting rolls. The Match Was close with the Shirts holding the lead till the last minute. Simon set the standard once more though not as prolific in front of goal as the last few weeks. James was everywhere scoring and defending in equal measure. Beatts and Christian were amongst the goals with both Jonnie and Garno claiming long rangers past Gazza.

The accolades however go to the Bibs, work rate, passing and finishing. Some exquisite goals from Ryan and Jake and some supper finishes from Gaz and Stef on the end of flowing moves. Ailes also showed his class linking up the play. Poor passing in the last seconds, lead to Gazza and Jake linking up, and Gazza smashing in their well-earned equaliser. Still enough time for one more play, Ryan to Jake, back to Ailes…. . across to Gazza…. back into Jake, turning, jinking then stopping dead…. to side foot a shot towards the top corner of the net with the goal keeper rooted.

Players held their breath………”Ping!!“ the sound of the ball hitting the angle of the goal and bouncing back into play. That was the last kick of the game.
FINAL SCORE - BIBS 13 - SHIRTS 13.

Comedy Moment - Tom (Ailes brother) bringing a pair of small boots.

Man Of the Match - Has to be huffing and puffing Vet Garry Bradley…. Well done for keeping going and some great goals.
